Concours d'Elegance

Friends, here's the story...

This past weekend was amazing. The 12th annual Concours d'Elegance was held at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island. It was a three-day event. Saturday is the auction and Sunday was the big attraction -- the show. And an amazing show it was.

To avoid traffic, I moved out of my house and into my brother- and sister-in-law's home, which is right across the street from the Ritz. I volunteered to help out through my membership in the Amelia Cruizers car club.

The Corvair concept were amazing. I had seen the one at the Corvair museum in Richmond, I think, but all were amazing. (Each year, the Concours has special features -- to my luck this year it was the Corvair concept cars!)

The Concours is a very "upscale" event. Admission to the auction is $80. Admission to the show on Sunday was $45 (about 20,000 people attended). Parking was $30, a hot dog was $7 and a cold beer was $5! I didn't see him but Jay Leno was there. I saw Ed Herrman (played FDR, was Richie Rich's dad in the movie) and I got to talk with Tommy Smothers )of Smothers Brothers fame) but no pix -- my battery was exhausted.

My camera battery died so I don't have near as many photos as I woud have liked.

Here are my pix. BE PATIENT and let them load. I just don't have the time to break this into a zillion pages right now...and I want my friends to be able to share in this experience.

Next year, two words: Road trip!

First the Corvairs...
